Safe Blade Change in the Chopper Service
The blades used by mobile choppers need to be serviced and resharpened after just a few hours of operation. In this context, time efficiency and a flawless process are crucial to preventing costly damage to the rotor. With this in mind, alkitronic® has developed a solution that ensures maintenance work is carried out reliably, precisely, and effectively.
INTRODUCTION
Cutting blades must be replaced or readjusted regularly, often under time pressure and with a large number of bolted connections per machine. Since the rotor is a sensitive and costly component, precise and secure bolted connections are of critical importance. At the same time, it must be ensured that operating errors are prevented.
INITIAL SITUATION
The blades of the mobile shredders are serviced after approximately 8–10 hours of operation. These blades are mounted in a rotor and, depending on the model and manufacturer, are secured with two or three bolts (M27/M30).
During maintenance, the bolts are first loosened and then precisely realigned with the cutting edge, as the exact alignment of the cutting edges is essential. The operating principle is similar to that of a pair of scissors, where even the slightest deviation can affect performance and results.
At the same time, the rotor is a sensitive component, so it is critical to avoid improper tightening. To ensure consistently high quality and prevent operator errors, it is necessary to use tools with a precisely defined torque setting.
SOLUTION
The optimal solution for this application was developed based on the parameters specified by the manufacturer and accompanying test runs on the chopper. The battery-powered EB-S 350 and the electric EC-S 65 were used, each set to a fixed torque of 1,800 Nm.
In close collaboration with the manufacturer, a specially adapted support system was also developed. It provides reliable support even in confined spaces. This comprehensive solution has been successfully implemented at several of the manufacturer’s end customers.
Thanks to high user satisfaction, it quickly gained a clear advantage over previously used competing solutions within a year.
