Eight meters high and with a span of up to 35 meters, they tower over the motorway: Steel gantries. They are used for safe traffic control or for traffic management. When it comes to secure bolting, our customer Max Bögl relies on their partnership with alkitronic®. Thanks to the smart alkitronic® ECWip electric torque multiplier, the gantries can be bolted efficiently and reliably.
COMPANY PROFILE
The Max Bögl Group is an international construction company based in Sengenthal near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate. With around 6,500 employees at more than 35 locations worldwide, Max Bögl is one of the largest construction, technology and service companies in the German construction industry. Since its founding in 1929, the company's history has been characterized by its innovative strength in research and technology. Stefan Grad, Procurer and Production Manager Interior Construction Wind at Max Bögl, has already worked with alkitronic® tools in the field of wind power. He still turns to the tried and tested alkitronic® quality for the field of motorway gantries.
THE STARTING POINT
Max Bögl Group traffic gantries are used throughout Germany. Examples include at the main traffic junctions around Munich and Hanover. Very limited space around the structures presents challenges when bolting the gantries. Torques of up to 3,500 Nm are required. These are HV fittings and bolt sizes from M12 to M33. The torque multipliers used must be efficient, robust and, above all, compact. An all-weather torque multiplier was a prerequisite for the customer. Just as important: Angular / torque method and process safe-ty.
THE SOLUTION
Thanks to the electric alkitronic® ECWip, Georg Stein, the responsible area sales manager, had the right solution ready. "Due to the very small head plate joints on the gantries, bolting conditions are very cramped. With its angled design, the alkitronic® ECWip was ideal in these situations”, says Stefan Grad, Procurer and Production Manager Interior Construction Wind. The compact design combined with the aluminium housing of the motor gives the electric torque multiplier high stability and robustness. The torque multipliers used are also certified with IP54 protection. That means they can be safely used even when working in conditions that are damp, rainy or dirty.
The software package included was decisive when deciding for an alkitronic® torque multiplier as it enables reliable bolting according to the torque/rotation angle method. The flange connection shown contains seven bolts per side, resulting in a total of 28 fittings per flange. The bolted connections on the gantries are bolted to a torque specification and additional angle of rotation specification and monitored at the same time. This procedure guarantees maximum bolting quality and process reliability for Max Bögl.
The alkitronic® software package simpli-fies documentation and ensures safety throughout a multitude of bolting operations. "The big advantage is that bolting is possible in one operation without additional verification. This saves the customer time and work,” explains Georg Stein, area sales manager at alkitronic®. The compact, reliable alkitronic® ECWip electric torque multiplier with its angled design has proven itself time again for our customer Max Bögl. "We are very satisfied with the collaboration and, above all, with the alkitronic® products," says Stefan Grad.
